  1. Very good introduction to the role of women in Cuba.

    The beginning references the lack ‘capitalist agenda’. By this I presume you mean government policy. However, Cuba is not immune from the effects of capital, the world capitalist markets. Your reference to the rise of prostitution and sexist advertising after the collapse of the Soviet Union are a case in point.

    In the long run the collapse of the Soviet Union is a positive development, even for Cuba. Most of the enemies of the Cuban revolution claimed Cuba was nothing more than a client state of the Soviet Union and could not survive without it. This was even believed to some extent in Cuba. It has turned out not to be true.
